What are the benefits of baby signing?

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

It reduces the need for your baby to have to cry or point to get his or her message across.
It reduces frustration for both babies and parents.
It strengthens the bond between you and your baby – and happier babies mean happier parents.

Encouraging Signing

bamba1We have developed Bamba’s First Comforts to incorporate concepts a baby will easily understand and want to use. Every object or toy
has been carefully selected to match your babies early needs and experiences. Repetition and simplicity are key factors. You do not need to learn a new and complex language. Remember you are building on your baby’s natural skill and instinct.

Most children come into the world with the skills and capacity for developing normal adult language. Before they do this however there are several distinct stages to go through until they can express themselves through speech.
Children usually progress from vowel sounds at around three months ah to consonant sounds at around six months da da to single words at around 12 months example to two word phrases around two years and then on to simple sentences.

Along away there may be much frustration for both you as a parent and for your child. Lack of speech and the ability to specifically tell you what they want can lead to tears-on both sides.
Imagine your eight-month-old baby is telling you that they’re hungry. They would normally do this by crying. As a parent you have to decide is my baby crying because he is hungry bored or tired. If however your baby could use the gesture for a bottle or milk you could get a drink for them without having to second guess.

Gestures can therefore help babies tell us what they want, but gestures also help understanding of the world.
